I had never really given much thought to having a website specifically for Nero’s Fiddle. After all, it costs to have a website created and I simply don’t have the funds.
But that changed when I attended my writer’s group the other night.
I blame it on one fella in the group. He tells us about a website that compliments his book. It’s interactive and provides more information about the book for readers.
Well, okay, he’s not completely to blame. As I listened to him talk about the website, I recalled all those “popup” ads that assault me almost constantly. Some of them advertised “free” websites.
So, as soon as I got home I investigated those so-called free website builders. Of course, none of them were actually free. There is always a catch and this was no exception. It’s always free to sign up, rarely free after that.
But I did stumble across one: wix.com. It really is free and, even better, very easy to use. An even bigger bonus: it actually looks pretty good.
So I took the plunge and created the site centering around Nero’s Fiddle. I included additional insight into the characters, the story of how Nero’s Fiddle came into being and the 5-star reviews the book has received thus far. I can add more or make changes anytime I like and I will be doing that in the upcoming weeks and months.
The real reason I created the site was pretty simple: I had reached a “rut” in my promotion of Nero’s Fiddle. I do the Facebook, Twitter and Google+ postings every day. I attempt to get the word out about the book through several other avenues but see few results. I needed something different, something new, another way to promote the book in addition to what I was already doing.
Creating the website, along with a few other ideas, injected me with new energy and purpose. It lifted me from my current well of despair and gave me renewed hope.
This is my personality trait. I am very project-oriented but I must have new projects upon which to focus. Otherwise, I fall into those ruts that lead to depression and despair.
This is one of the many benefits of being part of a writer’s group. The diversity within the group itself is charged with energy. Ideas fly around the room like confetti and some of that confetti lands on you. You can benefit from those ideas just as your co-writers can benefit from the ideas coming from you.
I have given myself an assignment: make a list of new ways to promote and write every so often to prevent those ruts from occurring.
And maybe, just maybe, that work will yield results.
It is that hope which gets me up every morning.
