To begin, the title of this blog site is My Tuppence. I first attempted to call it “My Two Cents” but that title was taken. As was my three cents, my two cents worth and my three cents worth. I didn’t want to go any further than that.
So I mulled it over. And remembered that tuppence is a coin of the realm: the English realm that is. Its worth is two pennies.
There was also the memory of four of my most favorite Agatha Christie novels, Partners in Crime (1929), The Secret Adversary (1922), By the Pricking of My Thumbs (1968) and Postern of Fate (1973). These novels featured a detective couple by the names of Tommy and Tuppence Beresford.
Ergo, My Tuppence loosely translates into “My Two Cents” with homage to Christie.
The first and foremost thing anyone should know about me is that I am a writer. I was bitten by the writing bug when I was ten years old.
I love to write. I love to talk about writing. I love to read about writing. I love to conduct research for writing.
Writing is not the only thing I enjoy. But it is the one thing I know I do well. I’m not James Rollins or Dean Koontz, Agatha Christie or Judy Mercer (may she and Agatha rest in peace). But I can spin a good tale.
I also appreciate art and photography. Though I am an amateur at both I do not allow that to deter me from taking photos or creating art.
Cats. I love cats. I like dogs, but cats are my preferred furry companions.
I have many interests and a few, ahem, shall we say, unconventional talents? For instance, I do a mean impression of the Scooby-Doo laugh. I can also write backwards and read upside down. I once drove 500 miles with the directions to my destination taped upside-down on my steering wheel. I didn’t tape them upside-down on purpose but I could read them anyway.
Hm. I may not be as dull as I think I am.
Regardless, here will be found whatever strikes my fancy. There may be book reviews. There may be commentary on the state of the world. There may be interviews with other authors and artists. There may be writing advice. I have plenty of that to give and I won’t charge a single tuppence for it.
Wherever my fancy takes me, dear reader, you are welcome to come along.
Just be sure to buckle up. And keep your hands and feet within the confines of safety at all times.
